Toronto Bolsters Frontcourt with Promising Forward

Raptors Sign Jontay Porter

The Toronto Raptors have announced the signing of forward Jontay Porter. The 6'11" center-forward joins the Raptors after spending the past two seasons with the Memphis Grizzlies.

Porter's Journey to Toronto

Porter, a former top recruit, was drafted by the Grizzlies with the 31st overall pick in the 2019 NBA Draft. However, his NBA career was derailed by a series of knee injuries.

After undergoing multiple surgeries, Porter nearly quit basketball. However, he persevered and made his NBA debut with the Grizzlies in the 2021-22 season.

Porter's Potential

Despite his injury history, Porter has shown flashes of his potential. He is a skilled passer, rebounder, and shot-blocker who can play multiple positions.

The Raptors are hoping that Porter can provide them with depth and versatility in their frontcourt. He is expected to compete for minutes behind All-Star Pascal Siakam and Precious Achiuwa.

Grizzlies' Reaction

The Grizzlies have expressed their support for Porter's decision to join the Raptors. Grizzlies general manager Zach Kleiman said in a statement:

"We want to thank Jontay for his contributions to our team. He is a talented player who worked extremely hard to overcome adversity. We wish him all the best in Toronto."

Raptors' Outlook

The signing of Porter gives the Raptors added depth and competition in their frontcourt. The team is now well-positioned to make a push for a deep playoff run this season.
